His beard itches, for gosh sake!
I've been meaning to write about Lost for quite a while -- actually one particular aspect of Lost that has been a significant part of my life this entire season. It's something that's been annoyingly consistent for months:
I have nightmares about the Others each and every week that are so detailed, I'm often confused to whether something occurred on the show or in my dream.
You know how you can have a recurring dream about a secret room in your house or a place that you've never been but is really familiar. Or how something that you dream will be referenced in a dream on a later date? Well, that's what happens with my Lost nightmares.
In my bizarro Lost nightmare world, here are some fun facts about the Others:
- They're cannibals. Not only are they cannibals, they're always having picnics.
- They live on the Coast where there is a big cove area. It actually looks very similar to where their "set" is. And I dreamed this location before they showed it this season.
- They bury people alive to test their endurance
- There is an element of time travel involved
- They're always trying to catch people sneaking into their picnics.
As an adult, I don't usually have nightmares that really scare me. However, my Lost series scares me so much that I have a hard time falling asleep after waking up. And, as always when I have a nightmare, I wake Ben up and tell him to hug me. When he asks what my nightmare was about, I won't tell him for fear that speaking aloud the dream will make it come true.
Do I stop watching Lost? Of course not. But it's interesting to realize that very few things scare me as much as the unknown Others. The fact that we're seeing so much of them now makes them a lot less scary -- especially when you see the sort of discourse that occurs between Tom (aka Zeke) and the other characters.
Maybe ol' Henry Gale is right. Maybe they are the good guys. I mean, overall, they've probably killed less people than our good old castaways.

I think the finale made them seem a little less sinister. I know what you mean about the nightmares. Susie and I didn't start watching Lost at all until a few months ago. We watched the whole first season and then downloaded the first 19 episodes of Season two until we were caught up. We were watching like three or four episodes a night, three or four nights a week. I started having Lost dreams, but I rarely remember what I dream about, so I have no details. Susie, who already has night terrors on a fairly regular basis, was wigging pretty often. She actually freaked DURING the finale when she failed to notice one of our guests had gotten up to use the bathroom during a commercial. When said guest returned, Susie got spooked and almost attacked her. That night, she had two separate night terrors which resulted in the removal of a "threatening" picture from the wall and a near attack of my nightstand (I talked her down). We won't stop watching it either. Damn Others.
Me and Astrid and our friend started watching Lost and we have only gotten as far as the first 4 Episodes of the first season (we are going to wtch it with that ffriend so we are waiting)
but i cant wait to catch up and find out what happens :)
you have good taste in TV shows :-p haha.
Lost is my favorite show on cable right now. The Finale episode was an ass-kicker and I can't wait for the new season to start, especially since I just read in The Chron that HBO's Deadwood was essentially cancelled because no one's contracts on the show were renewed and the director is doing some other show for them now.
Deadwood is probably my favorite show on all of the pay channels but we're going to be deprived of the fourth and final chapter of that amazing story now. Can I say "cocksuckers" here? It's a very popular word on the show Deadwood, for those that have seen it. The freakin' HBO executives need to be called something unpleasant for cancelling their best show since The Sopranos. I guess some people are actually calling for a boycott of HBO and cancelling their service with them. I don't think that's the right move for me personally though. Bill Maher's still got a show there.
Oh well... At least we have at least five years of Lost to look forward to, according to a post I read somewhere about Damon Lindelof's mysterious island masterpiece. I'll stop whining soon, I promise; Just as soon as the new Lost season starts.
