Miss Tified: A Beauty Blog for the Challenged
The other day I decided that I wanted to reinvest in my TypePad blog by taking the really personal stuff out and focussing on some sort of review model. I chose to use TypePad instead of Vox since (1) it's good for me to use multiple platforms and be familiar with the limitations and benefits of all of them (2) I wanted this blog to have AdSense integration (3) I wanted to be able to experience blogging from both the personal (Vox) and Commercial (TypePad) perspectives.
So I decided that I'd write about beauty and makeup at a blog called Miss Tified. My description of the site explains why: "What is Miss Tified? It's a blog that's meant to answer one fundamental question: How the heck do I master all the products and techniques out there that are supposed to make me look good? And, frankly, how did I get to be 30 years-old and be so utterly clueless about make-up and beauty."
Seriously, I have -- since I was a kid -- been such a mess when it comes to beauty and beauty products. Like I say in the blog, I don't ever intend to be obsessed with it all but I'd just like a better idea of what I'm doing wrong or right. Over the past year I have actually begun enjoying shopping for makeup and beauty products. Yet I don't know how to do a good eye with eyeshadow or keep my lipstick on for more than an hour. This blog is my attempt to document my (and other women's) mishap and spotlight products that I'm using.
So go visit Miss Tified now!

The design is absolutely lovely!
Mary-Lynn, blotting papers are your friend. You can pick them up anywhere and since it's not a powder, it won't dry you out. I also like Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. It's a really light transulecent powder, it's like magic.
As far as tips and tricks of the "applying cosmetics" trade, I've learned innumerable techniques and possibilities from watching Carmindy on <a href="What Not to Wear">. Appropriate brushes, the right lip color, colored eye shadows, glamour mascara, picking the right face powder, etc. I'm not a huge Stacy London fan, but Nick and Carmindy keep me tuning in half-way through the episodes. Just a thought.

One tip that I consider more of a health tip than a beauty tip, although I do feel more attractive. I'm very, very prone to getting dry and chapped lips and I also have a tendency to get cold sores when I'm stressed out. Mary Kay sells this Lip Scrub stuff. You rub it on your lips dry, let it sit for a bit, and then rinse it off. I've been doing this once a week for about 3 years and I've gone from getting 1-2 cold sores per month to get 1-2 cold sores per year. There's also this lipstick base stuff that I put on before lipstick and it keeps my lips from drying out and it makes the lipstick stick around longer.
Thansk, Mena. You're not alone in the confused by beauty world. I'll be reading along and learning with you. And good luck getting free samples and maybe some advertising. If that is your plan.
Trying to get that perfect look, one that makes you feel comfortable and stylish, is one long experiment. That's what I've discovered over the years. Even if I'm satisfied for a day, I always find out that there's something that I'd like to change about the way I apply makeup, or the way I look and feel in general, the next day.
I think that's what us girls have to do though-- take our look and style one day at a time. I mean, who says we can't change how we look (therefore, how we feel) on a day-by-day basis? That's the best we can offer ourselves. ^_^
Happy New Year, Mena.
Carla, I am a big fan of Product Girl! Great to see you on Vox too! Finding Mena's post today is rather serendipitous because I just purchased the domain name for my in-the-works beauty/shopping/shoes site earlier this afternoon - hours before coming across this! Heading over to Miss Tified now - can't wait to see what it's like...
p.s. - If you've never bought anything from the amazing company that is LUSH, you simply must do so pronto!
thanks for sharing this page. =)
