The oldest thing I own
The only thing that I'm absolutely sure of the date of origin is our house -- it was built in 1914.
So, that's certainly the oldest thing we've bought. However, we have a handful of antiques around the house that I scavenged from my grandparents' house before they moved and sold their furniture.
These two chairs are the pieces of furniture that I just had to take possession of. They are staples of my childhood, furniture that both fascinated and terrified me at the same time.
The chair set was bought by my grandparents in an estate sale sometime in the 1960s. I believe that they're Spanish antiques but am not sure if they are from the 20th, 19th or 18th Century. If I had to guess, I'd probably say they were from the late 19th since my grandparents had an entire set that matched and if they were older than 100 years, it would be remarkable that they'd all still be together.
If you can't tell from these photos, one chair has the faces of angels on them -- the other, devils. It was the devil chair that scared me.
